The Ministry of Education, Sustainable Development, Innovation, Science, Technology and Vocational Training informs of the call for applications for the Fourth Edition of the King Hamad Youth Empowerment Award to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, from the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Mission of Award:
The recognition of the positive contribution of youth and the initiatives that enable them to participate, act and have an impact in the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 goals (SDGs).
Vision of Award:
Engage global youth as agents of change for sustainable community development.
Objectives of Award:
- Shed light on youth empowerment as the core objective for a better future for all.
- Inspire impactful actions by youth for sustainable development globally.
- Encourage initiatives that enable youth engagement and actions for sustainable developments.
Description of the Award:
This year’s edition of the award (the fourth edition), in its two categories, was launched to take into account “youth-led actions” and “acts that empower youth” to mitigate directly or indirectly the immediate short and long-term effects of the global pandemic.
The focus will not only be on actions that assist the deployment of the SDGs, but also on building sustainable societies.
First Category – Youth Category
This category is open to applicants from all UN member states. Applicants can be individual youth above the age of 15 years and below the age of 35 years; a youth-led entity (defined as any entity, in which at least 50% of current management/leadership is below age of 35); or a youth above 15 and below 35 yes of age. This category includes five (5) awards, each including a financial prize of 20,000 USD
Awards are as follow:
- People: Ending poverty and hunger in all forms
- Prosperity: Ensuring prosperous and fulfilling lives in harmony with nature
- Planet Protecting our planet natural resources and climate for future generations
- Peace: Fostering peaceful, just and inclusive societies; and
- Partnership: Forging solid partnerships to implement agenda 2030.
Second Category – Youth Enablers Category
This category is open to entities that are legally recognized and registered in a UN member state, in one the following for sectors: the governmental and public sector; the private sector; NGOs, Professional and Labour Organizations and Foundations; and media. This category includes three (3) recognition awards. Winning submission from NGOs/Foundations only may be eligible for an accompanying financial prize of 25,000 USD.
Awards are as follow:
- Institutional: Dismantling institutional barriers and/or creating opportunities for youth participation and action (for example, initiating a strategy, policy, regulations, laws, initiative, etc.)
- Financial: providing young people access to start-up financing and/or tools for enterprise viability and development, including incubating initiatives, or similar assistance
- Technical: providing young people with knowledge assets, technical know-how, skill-building support, including incubating initiatives, or similar assistance.
