The annual campaign aims to increase public awareness of the dangers of vector borne diseases.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Human Services and Gender Relations is asking the public to be aware of the dangers of vectors and vector borne diseases.
Dr. Sharon Belmar-George, Senior Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health said that in the recent past, vector borne diseases have become a serious public health threat.
"There was a rise in dengue fever cases, and the introduction and spread of Chikungunya was another serious case for the health ministry," she said. "Traditionally, with the onset of the rainy season in June, we note an increase in our mosquito indices in various communities around the island, and this leads to an increase in vector borne diseases."
Dr. George said the current public awareness campaign is to ensure that vectors do not have a place to breed and spread disease.
"The Ministry of Health's vector awareness campaign heightens awareness during the rainy season so that the public does whatever it can to reduce breeding sites and the impact of vector borne diseases on our population."
