The first meeting will be held tomorrow in Soufriere, and in Choiseul on Thursday.
The Ministry of Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology will begin public sensitization sessions on the highly anticipated geothermal energy development project, tomorrow.
The sessions will begin in Soufriere, and precede the commencement of exploratory work as part of the first phase of the Geothermal Development Project.
The aim of the sessions is to facilitate meetings with residents and stakeholders in order to inform and update them on the project plans before the exploratory work commences. The sessions also provide an opportunity for residents and stakeholders to voice their concerns, and debunk myths associated with the project.
Tomorrow's public consultation will begin with a presentation and discussion session with the students and staff of the Soufriere Secondary School followed by a town hall meeting at Les Etangs Combined School at 5 p.m. Land owners and residents of the Les Etangs, Belfond, Fond Doux and Belle Plain communities are all invited to attend.
The sensitization sessions will continue on Thursday, Feb. 19, for the students and staff of the Choiseul Secondary School, followed by a 6:30 p.m. community meeting at Whispers Inc.
Officials from the Ministry of Sustainable Development will conduct the consultations, with support from the New Zealand technicians with responsibility for the first phase of the Geothermal Development Project.
