THE DYNAMIC INITIATIVE INVITES ASPIRING AND EMERGING CREATIVES TO EXPLORE THE FULL PROCESS OF COSTUME DESIGN.

The Cultural Development Foundation (CDF), in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan), is pleased to announce the launch of Mas Making Magic: From Vision to Costume—a hands-on costume design workshop blending imagination, innovation, and tradition as part of the 2025 Spotlight Taiwan Project.

This dynamic initiative invites aspiring and emerging creatives to explore the full process of costume design, from concept sketch to final construction. Participants will be guided in transforming bold visions into wearable art that celebrates Saint Lucia’s vibrant carnival tradition while embracing cutting-edge technology.

The workshop is led by Taiwanese master artist Ms. Hsienyu Chuang, internationally renowned for her monumental lantern installations. Under her guidance, participants are introduced to innovative design techniques such as programmable lighting, atmospheric effects, mechanical movement, and responsive materials that interact with touch, sound, and light. These methods will equip participants to create costumes that are visually striking and technologically dynamic, bringing new energy to stage and street performances.

The programme began virtually on Monday, August 25, 2025, and continues with an in-person segment from Thursday, September 4 to Tuesday, September 16, culminating in a public exhibition on Wednesday, September 17.

With more than twenty participants enrolled, including representatives of national and community carnival groups, the initiative is already fostering creativity, cultural exchange, and innovation.

“Mas Making Magic is not only a workshop—it is a cultural bridge between Saint Lucia and Taiwan, and an opportunity to nurture new ideas and artistic excellence within our creative industries,” notes Tracy Dolcy, Director of Training, Promotion, and Development at CDF.

The CDF encourages costume designers, performers, and creative enthusiasts to take advantage of this unique opportunity.
